===== Case Ideas ===== ==== Background ==== I the guitar came in a nice modern foam hardcase ((It's much like this Kala baritone ukulele case [[https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BariUkeCase--kala-baritone-ukulele-case]] )) and that is good for transport, but not for walking around at living history events. So I am exploring something my 16c counterpart might have made or had made to use in this setting. ==== A few images ==== My thanks to [[https://www.pinterest.co.uk/passamezzo/instrument-cases-15-17thc/]] For gathering and posting some of the images below ==== Hard Case ==== Engraved Italian portrait from 1510, //Suonatore di viola da mano//, of [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Filoteo_Achillini|Giovanni Filoteo Achillini]] (1466–1538). By Marcantonio Raimondi, after a lost original painting by Francesco Francia. So larger, but still, a good idea for a hard case. {{ chordophones:renaissance_guitar:achillini_estampe_d_apres_..._raimondi_marcantonio_btv1b69534380_1506.jpg?direct&600 | click to see the larger original image}} From [[https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b69534380?rk=21459;2]] -- image only https://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.2&query=dc.subject%20adj%20%22achillini%2C%20giovanni%20filoteo%20%281466-1538%29%22 -- info page ==== Hardened Leather Case? ==== I do keep returning to the idea of making it some leather "armor". But I think that would be best accomplished by making a wooden form to shape it on and I have not committed to that yet. I think it may be what I end up doing. I have done hardened leather for bottles (waxed) and armor (waxed or "boiled") in the past. So it might be nice to dust off those skills. ==== Net & Cloth ==== Currently for carrying the guitar while walking around I am wrapping it in a rectangle of wool and placing that in a shaped net bag I made out of hemp. This temporary solution is working well. Which of course means I am in no rush to make something else.
